2021 Mount Mary, Chardonnay

2021 er en stjerneårgang for Mount Mary's Chardonnay. Vinmarken blev plantet i 1972 med en række kloner. Denne udgave er som altid fadgæret og lagret i et mix af fade med 30% ny barrique, ældre fade og enkelte 1500 liters fade. Vinen gennemgår ikke malolatisk gæring for at bevare vinens fokus og renhed. Dette er tæt på idealet af Yarra Valley og en af verdens store Chardonnay vine. Den kølige, superpræcise og ekstremt vellykkede 2021er viser en vidunderlig næse med diskret fadpræg, gule æbler, citrus, hvide blomster og topklasse fransk fad. Intens, koncentreret og smertefuld lang er dette topklasse-Chardonnay der som altid ikke må være for kold. Silkepoleret, suverænt rammet ind i fadkrydderi og så smidig og harmonisk, slutter denne mestervin med salte toner og tør friskhed i den voldsomt lange finale. (-2035+) *****

Complex, seamless, spicy and creamy, the wine has textural complexity to match with the diverse flavor spectrum. It gets better as it ages, and I truly believe it will remain one of the great Australian Chardonnays for years to come. 5 Star Wine og 96 points Inside Burgundy: "Toasty cedar oak at the fore along with some lovely flinty reduction. Notes of ripe lemon, melon, green apple skin, and white nectarine build in the glass and fill the wine out, along with a saline mineral oyster shell aroma underpinning it all and adding savoury complexity. The palate has a good balance of tension and texture, freshness and complexity. White nectarine, ripe lemon, melon and buttered toast are buoyed by the saline mineral note again before a vein of fine, glossy phenolics and clean acidity draw it long to a chiselled finish. Fresh and pure, though with great intensity, complexity and length. "

96 points James Halliday: "Hand picked, 20% whole-bunch pressed, the balance crushed and destemmed. Matured in French puncheons and barriques (30% new) for 11 months. A light, bright gold with green tinges. Seductive with its bouquet of melon, fresh fig, yellow peach, chamomile and a little lemongrass. A savoury nuance, too. On the palate, which is powerful, densely packed and structured, you'll find some grapefruit pith and hazelnut. Finishes extremely long, saline and gently grippy."
