    Denne Reserva fra de ældste stokke på Chocapalha er et ægte udråbstegn i 2016 årgangen. Kombinationen af Touriga Nacional og Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) er ganske enkelt forrygende. Vinha Mãe er efter fodtrædning og maceration i lagares lagret 20 måneder i franske barriques (1/3 ny) efterfulgt af flaskelagring indtil frigivelsen i 2021. Den formidable og frugtdrevne næse viser ekstraordinær dybde, intense brombærtoner, blåbær, tobak, engelsk lakrids, blæk og blomster i et udtryk af opsigtvækkende høj klasse og intensitet. Smagen er lige så bemærkelsesværdig og stadig ungdommelig med levende, sprælsk syrerygrad under denne smidige frugt. Ganske vægtig i sin frugt og særdeles koncentreret viser er den alligevel næsten dansende på tungen grundet sin sprælske levende syrerygrad. Aldeles overbevisende er dette endnu et bevis på den klasse Chocapalha's vine kan opnå i deres symbiose af lokale og kendte druesorter i en traditionel-konventionel vinifikation. Et brag af en vin! The wine, approaching its impressive maturity, is perfumed and concentrated. The black stone fruits, now softened into the tannins, are luxurious. Drink this very fine wine from 2022.”

    93 points Robert Parker Wine Advocate: ”The 2016 Vinha Mãe is a 65/35 blend of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz this year, aged for 20 months in 30% new French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is the current release—Chocapalha holds some wines back to allow development in the bottle. Well, it hasn't actually developed much. Tightly wound and showing off very concentrated fruit, it manages to keep some mid-palate elegance while coating the palate. As I said on the regular Tinto this issue, the tannins are ripe, but the fruit is so unevolved that this plainly could use a couple of years in the cellar. That said, the more it sat in the glass, the more I liked it. It should age well, perhaps better than anticipated, so there is no need to rush. It is vaguely approachable but certainly not showing all it has today. This looks like a terrific Vinha Mãe. Sourced from the winery's 32-year-old vines, there were 5,850 bottles produced.”
